Rhododendron Flowers, 2010, Kirsten Chursinoff
It's the end of February. The seagulls are guarding their nesting sites on the rooftop beside our building; the herons have re-inhabited their heronry/rookery in Vancouver's Stanley Park; and spring is generally early all across the city. The cherry blossom trees have been blooming for a couple of weeks now and the rest of the trees are skeletal, but show signs of returning life. Last years' nests are still visible and robins are poking around in the grass. A visit to the Ted and Mary Greig Rhododendron Garden yielded some early shrubs in full-flower. It was raining a little, so the photos are a bit blurry.

Just a few of the hundred or more nests in the Stanley Park heronry.

Flowering tree of some sort?
Plenty of inspiration for my upcoming "Garden Stories" exhibition in New Westminster.
