Blossoms and Texture:
Hand-stitched cherry blossoms
with Kirsten Chursinoff
Saturday, March 29 1:30 to 4:30
at FibreEssence Gallery, Vancouver
Fee: $35 plus $5 materials fee
Students will have a chance to develop texture - building quantities of French knot embroidery stitches perfect for depicting cherry blossoms! Also covered is the versatile couching stitch. Couching is the technique of securing yarns and decorative threads to the fabric surface. This works great for branches and tree trunks, as well as couching in a spiral for blossoms shapes.
Students may have time to complete a small finished piece suitable for mounting on an art card or in a small frame (not provided).
Both beginner and experienced embroiderers are welcome. Basic stitch directions will be given. If you already know how to work with these stitches, you will be challenged to use them in new ways and integrate them into the theme of “Blossoms”.
The material fee of $5 covers basic hoop, embroidery needles and shared use of a variety of threads, floss and yarns.
Max number of students will be 8.
